CSA name Emerging Women’s squad to face Zimbabwe

Dinesha Devnarain Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday, named the 14-woman Emerging squad that will take on Zimbabwe in a five-match T20 series and a once-off, One-Day match from 26 September to 02 October 2015.

The series forms part of Zimbabwe’s preparation for the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifiers tournament that will take place in Thailand this November. It is also an ideal opportunity for the South African team to give much needed match exposure to players returning to international cricket like Dinesha Devnarain and Nadine Moodley as well as players who are on the fringe of the Momentum Proteas team.

Team coach, Hilton Moreeng is looking forward to seeing what the second tier of players has to offer.

“This is an important tour for us from a CSA point of view because this is a good opportunity to watch the most promising players whom we identified during the National Women’s Week in Bloemfontein, take their place and finally show what they have to offer at an international level,” he said.

“Game time is golden in women’s cricket because we don’t get a lot of tours, even more so at Emerging level, so we were happy to be a part of this and also give a chance to players whom we know have great potential to move up to the next level,” he concluded.

The matches will be played at Sinovich Park and Mamelodi Oval in Pretoria, with the first two matches being a double-header at Mamelodi.
